I am The 908th: Senior Airman Jacob Huff

Senior Airman Jacob Huff, a defender with the 908th Security Forces Squadron, provides security for Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, and other locations where needed, through duties such as gate support while continually training to remain ready for the mission.

Huff was recently recognized as the 908th Flying Training Wing Airman of the Quarter for the 4th Quarter of 2025, an achievement he did not learn about until returning from a deployment.

“When I came back from my deployment, my chief let me know I won an award for Airman of the Quarter,” explained Huff. “I went to the all call, got up in front of everybody and got my award from Col. Devlin.”

Huff said the recognition came as a surprise because he was deployed when he was selected and was completely unaware that he had won.

During the deployment, Huff worked flyaway security for aircraft, taking on duties normally performed by specially trained Raven teams.

“We were attached to the C-130s. We would fly with them into different hot spots,” said Huff. “It’s the Ravens’ job in the deployed environment, but I am not a Raven.”

Before deploying, Huff and his team completed a two-week course that qualified them to perform the security duties normally handled by a Raven team.

The assignment built upon the training Huff regularly conducts as a Defender with the 908th.

“We pretty much train to deploy. We do different things at Sim City,” said Huff. “We shoot, train in close-quarters combat, clear buildings and perform active-shooter drills.”

Huff’s commitment to service also extends beyond the Air Force Reserve. As a civilian, he serves as a state trooper with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, allowing him to apply his experience in law enforcement both in and out of uniform.

Behind Huff’s commitment to service is a motivation that extends beyond his military and civilian careers—his family.

“My wife and my two kids keep me motivated, exclaimed Huff. “I have a six-year-old and a two-year-old, so everything I do for them is to try to make the world a better place.”

Huff’s service as a Defender, a state trooper and a dedicated family man mirrors the commitment that contributed to his recognition as the 908th FTW Airman of the Quarter for the 4th Quarter of 2025.
